The China Education Initiative (CEI) is an innovative non-profit organization primarily supported by the Ford Foundation that addresses educational inequality in low-income Chinese communities with high incidences of minority populations.

We work in partnership with:

• The Woodrow Wilson School's China and the World Program (CWP)
• Tsinghua University
• Peking University - two of the most renowned academic institutions in China
• The Chinese Communist Youth League’s (CYL) ‘Graduate Student Volunteer Program’

CEI operates with the approval of the Chinese central government and is the first and only volunteer organization in the PRC to pair graduates from top universities in the US and China in a long-term service initiative. We are now recruiting promising future leaders to serve as fully-sponsored teaching fellows for 2009-2010 in China.

ESCP-EAP Paris Summer Session
from June 2 to July 10, 2009

Dear Partner,

We are happy to announce the Summer Session management program at ESCP-EAP at our campus in the heart of Paris! This 5 weeks program at ESCP-EAP Paris offers 7 management courses and is addressed to students from our partner universities, interested in studying at the Master's in Management level during the summer in Paris.


All courses are in English. There are full courses and half courses.
A full course = 30 contact hours = 5 ECTS
A half course = 15 contact hours = 2,5 ECTS
Students may choose to attend the equivalent of 3 full courses (90 contact hours maximum)
Courses will take place twice a week in 3 hours sessions each.

There are no tuition fees for students from our partner universities.


ADVANCED MANAGEMENT ELECTIVES (30 hours = 5 ECTS)

This course will introduce students to the role of business in modern western society. It is designed to form a link between historical and business studies. Though business activity and institutions have had an enormous impact in shaping the modern world, most students of society and even business practitioners have little sense of how commercial undertakings have evolved and interacted with other social institutions.


LAOD/A7 - The European model: does the European model lead to a European model of doing business?

This course aims at familiarizing participants with the different stages of the construction of a Single Market in Europe. It focuses both on the elements which bind this Union and on the hurdles which prevent it from moving ahead more quickly. Participants will be exposed to the traditions and habits which, in spite of growing European harmonization and regulation, may keep many business approaches and decisions purely local in their nature.

Since the end of World War II, the trend toward Free Trade and accelerating technological change has been pulling the world's economies and people closer together in a process we call globalization. Nowadays, it's hard to pass by a shop without reading “we're ISO 9000 certified”. Why such a rush for a simple standard? In fact for many companies it's just following a quality management fad. However, some do not fall in the trap. They do use the management tools, such as TQM or 6 Sigma for quality, but first of all they are aware of the British saying “A fool with a tool is still a fool”.


Housing Possibilities

ESCP-EAP has no accommodation on-campus. However, the school has an agreement with a student residence called “Le Vivaldi”. The Residence is about 35 minutes away by metro and there is a direct bus from the residence to the school which takes about 25 minutes. Rent is about 699 euros for a 20 sq meter studio and 586 euros for a 18 sq meter studette (all equipped with a bathroom and a small kitchen). Rent includes electricity, water and heating. Students need to buy their own dishes and linen.
Please note that availabilities at the residence can only be notified by May 2009.

Students can also apply for accommodation at the Cite Universitaire Internationale : www.ciup.fr

They can also choose to look for a private flat. However they should be aware that it is very difficult to find a flat in Paris for a short term rental.

Students can regularly check for accommodation ads published on the school intranet.

I enclose an application form and course choice form that your student can fill out and send back to me by email before February 27th 2009. Students can choose a maximum of 90 hours (3 courses of 30 hours or the equivalent of one 30 hours course in 2x15 hours course)

Dream Corps 2009 Summer Volunteer Program

May 24 – June 26, 2009

CALL FOR APPLICATION: Volunteer with Dream Corps InternationalLearn, Inspire, Teach, and Serve in Rural ChinaPROGRAMDream Corps is recruiting 30 to 40 international volunteers to participate in its 2009 Summer Volunteer Program in rural villages and urban migrant communities of China.

Volunteers will take part in activities that include
• Building basic library infrastructures
• Developing library management system
• Reading programs
• English teaching
• Facilitating community initiatives and projects
• Community understanding

The program consists of 3 days of training in Beijing, 3 weeks of volunteer work on assigned volunteer sites, and 3 days of concluding camp in Beijing.

QUALIFICATION

This is an exciting opportunity for students, researchers, and young professionals interested in international development, rural education, and the non-profit sector in China. Our past volunteers were from 12 different countries and regions and were primarily undergraduate and graduate students.Language: ability to speak Chinese is not imperative, but is highly preferred.

EXPENSE

While no fee is charged, volunteers shall cover all of their travel, board and lodging expenses during the program, including airfare for the traveling to China. Typical total expense per person during the program is around 250 US dollars. Volunteers from mainland China and team leaders are eligible for modest amount of financial assistance.

Copenhagen Busines School

The CBS International Summer University Program (ISUP) is open to:

International students interested in summer studies at Copenhagen Business School, Northern Europe's largest business school
All CBS students
Danish students from other institutions of higher education
Professionals seeking to further develop their knowledge and skills

This six-week summer offers students the option of completing the equivalent of a half semester (15 ECTS credits) in a multicultural environment. A full load consists of two of the courses taught by outstanding academics. The International Summer University Program includes both undergraduate and graduate level courses.

Active involvement of international senior executives from Danish and multinational companies will be an integral part of many of the courses.

Summer in the City?

Definitely worth considering when the city is Copenhagen where the streets are filled with sidewalk cafes and the midnight sky is never darker than a deep blue. Close to the city and waiting for you to discover are quaint mediaeval towns, white beaches and lovely forests. You can walk the winding streets of the old city center or see it from a canal boat. Your extra-curricular activities will include many things such as getting to know both modern Danish Design and Architecture, as well as a little of the Iron and Viking Ages. Travel is easy from Copenhagen and on a weekend you can take a cruise to Oslo for a variation on the Scandinavian theme or a train trip to Berlin to see how East and West are getting along.
Both international as well as national students can participate in the program. Please check under “prospective students” for further information on admission requirements. Depending on whether you are an international or national students you should contact different offices regarding your application and admission to the program: All international students should work with the ISUP Secretariat at the International Office, while all national students should work with the Electives Secretariat until after the first week of ISUP 2009 classes.
